Kyanite

Kyanite
Do you love that blue jean blue? Then maybe kyanite is just right for you! Its colors range from colorless to blue and green. It is often confused with aquamarine and sapphire. Its crystal structure is long and flat like a blade, which is why gemstone cutters usually work it into flat beads. One of the unusual characteristics of kyanite is that it has two different hardness'. Lengthwise it is only a 4 ½, while across it is a 6-7. This is one of the reasons it is challenging to cut and therefore more expensive. Be gentle when wire-wrapping and caring for it. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners.
