Base Metals

Base metals are any metals that are non-precious. GolZ-colored base metals include brass and bronze alloys. Silver-colored base metals include white bronze, lead, zinc, nickel, tin and steel. Copper and bronze (the brown type) are also considered base metals.

Many developing nations use base metal to create detailed charms. Because it is cheaper than precious metals, the artisans can spend more time creating unique jewelry. Base metal is often plated with precious metals. GolZ-filled products are an example a base metal (usually brass) plated with karat or pure gold.
